Tomfoolery’s Black & Blue Shiraz 2023 is a bold, Barossa-built red that leans into dark fruit power with a savoury, smoky edge. Made by owner-winemaker Ben Chipman, it’s styled for depth and structure rather than sweetness—confident, polished, and unapologetically full-bodied.
Appearance:
Inky black-cherry to deep garnet with a vivid purple rim and slow, staining legs.
Aroma:
Blackberry, dark plum and mulberry, followed by liquorice, cracked pepper, clove, smoked meat and a faint earthy, ironstone note.
Taste:
Full-bodied and dense. Ripe dark berries and plum pudding richness upfront, then savoury layers—bacon smoke, dark spice and cocoa. Acidity keeps the centre fresh, while firm, mouth-coating tannins provide a strong Barossa frame.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering black fruit, smoky spice and a dry, structured taper.
Food Pairing:
Chargrilled ribeye, peppered lamb, BBQ brisket, slow-braised beef cheeks, venison, or aged cheddar.
