Scorpo Estate is a boutique winery in the Heathcote region of Victoria, known for producing Shiraz with power, elegance, and distinct regional character. The 2020 vintage benefited from a warm, consistent growing season, allowing the fruit to achieve perfect ripeness while retaining natural acidity. Scorpo Estate Shiraz is hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented in small batches before maturing in French oak for 18 months, creating a wine of concentration, structure, and age-worthiness.

The vineyard sits on rich red Cambrian soils with patches of deep clay, which contribute to the wine’s plush texture, depth of flavour, and fine-grained tannins. Careful canopy management and selective harvesting ensure only the best fruit is used, enhancing the purity and intensity of the wine.

Appearance: Deep, inky ruby with violet highlights, reflecting a full-bodied structure. Slow legs cling to the glass, signalling the wine’s richness and alcohol weight.

Aroma: A complex bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum is layered with subtle notes of black pepper, smoked meat, and vanilla from oak maturation. Hints of graphite and dried herbs add nuance.

Taste: Rich and concentrated, with layers of ripe dark fruit, cassis, and plum interwoven with spicy oak, leather, and a touch of dark chocolate. The tannins are firm but refined, giving structure without overpowering the fruit.

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and mineral notes. The wine’s balance of fruit, tannin, and acidity ensures excellent cellaring potential.

Food Pairing: Grilled porterhouse steak with rosemary and garlic. Slow-braised lamb shanks with root vegetables.
