Description:
Ravel was so moved by a performance of Fran-Noin's play "A Time in Spain" at the Odéon in Paris in 1907 that he immediately set to work composing this opera "A Time in Spain". The work was completed in a short time, but the director of the Opéra-Comique was reluctant to perform it, and it had to wait until 1911 for its premiere. The Israeli-born conductor Asher Fisch, who will lead the Bavarian State Opera together with Kirill Petrenko in 2017, is a remarkable figure in Japan. He specializes in Wagner and Mozart. Together with Chabrier's rhapsody "Spain," which is recorded at the same time, they give a passionate performance. This is a live recording of the Sunday concert at the Prinzregenten Theater.
