Silver Egyptian Struck Owl, Great strike and luster! 5th-4th century BC, Tetrdrachm, NGC Mint State strike 4/5, surface 4/5

Athenian Owls were the currency that enabled international commerce to flourish during the 4th and 5th centuries B.C.

The Pelopennesian war with Sparta resulted in reduced production of Owls from the Athenian mint.  Egypt's best artisans worked to resolve the shortage by minting their own coinage for a brief period of time.

We made trips to coins shows in Orlando, Chicago, Baltimore and Monroeville to find  ONE  coin with shocking mint state luster.

NGC has only certified 26 MS Egyptian Struck Owl's.  We own and offer what we believe to be the best example of this low population.
