Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers,The Jazz Messengers
Description:
Art Blakey celebrates the 100th anniversary of his birth in October 2019. Miraculously unearthed is a completely unreleased studio recording from the golden age of his famous band, the Jazz Messengers, officially recorded on March 8, 1959 at Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey, produced by Alfred Lion, founder of Blue Note Records, and released on the label's website. Although the session is listed in the discography, it has never been released to the public for more than half a century. It was recorded only four months after "Mornin" (October 30, 1958), one of the most famous hard bop albums of Blakey's lifetime, with the temporary return of Hank Mobley, the band's first member, on tenor saxophone. This is the only official studio recording of this lineup. The recording includes four songs from "At the Jazz Corner of the World Vol. 1 & 2" (April 15, 1959), recorded live at Birdland five weeks after the recording of this album, plus two completely unreleased songs. With Morgan and Mobley as the front line, the band is a direct representation of the excitement of the golden age of modern jazz, and is a must-see for all jazz fans. <Art Blakey (ds), Lee Morgan (tp), Hank Mobley (ts), Bobby Timmons (p), Jimmy Merritt (b) Recorded in New Jersey on March 8, 1959 *This product will be released worldwide on the same day and will be available on Friday.
