Lajtha, Laszlo (1892-1963)
Description:
Born in Budapest, Leiter studied in Leipzig, Geneva, and Paris and developed his own style, but after World War I he devoted himself to the study of Hungarian folk music. This is a re-release of a well-received series previously released on the MARCOPOLO label. The fourth collection includes Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6, and the overture to the ballet Lysistrata, based on the comedy by the ancient Greek writer Aristophanes. The Fifth and Sixth Symphonies show well the characteristics of Leiter, who is said to have "different expressions in odd and even numbers, as in Beethoven's symphonies. Lysistrata" is the only ballet work performed during Leiter's lifetime. It is lively music full of humor. Naxos Japan
