Trio Herbig
Description:
Fanny Mendelssohn-Henzel (1805-1847) is the older sister of Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), a leading composer of the German Romantic period. Although she has long been known as a person overshadowed by her brother Felix, her own accomplishments as a composer and pianist have recently been reevaluated and reappraised. However, recordings of Fanny's chamber works on old instruments are still few and far between, making them extremely valuable. The Herbig, which is used in the trio's naming, is a fortepiano made in Vienna around the 1830s. The three players, all of whom are skilled on both modern and period instruments, bring Fanny's music to life once again, bringing out all of its charms. ALM RECORDS/Kojima Recording
