"In placing on record the industrial deeds of Broken Hill the author has accomplished a great deal for workingclass propoganda.  Set forth in all their nakedness these historical facts lay a trail that may be easily followed by those entrusted with the task of continuing they undying work of the battlers of the "nineties".  In such a book the niceties of literary expression and style are not the essential thing; this is a book of tremendous workingclass tragedies rather than of finely-constructed phrases.  It is in effect a survey of the building of the wondrous Labor movement in Australia.  A work on the struggles of the Class War, it will be understood why the language used is in keeping with the brutal treatment meted out by the mining magnates to those of the wealth-producers who dared to espouse the cause of their class."
