“Jeudi 15” Rosso 2020 is produced from organically farmed Nerello Mascalese grapes grown in several 80-90 year old bush vine vineyards located in the stunning contrada of MonteLaguardia. Situated at altitudes of between 800 to 840 metres, these vineyards can be found on the northern slopes of Mt Etna, between the village of Passopisciaro and Randazzo. The vineyards are predominantly Nerello Mascalese, co-planted with small percentages of Nerello Cappuccio and Alicante (Grenache), as is the tradition of the area.

Harvest in 2020 was during the second week of October. Healthy grapes were hand picked and bought to the winery in Solicchiata. 70% of the grapes were de-stemmed by hand into an open 30hl wooden fermenter. The rest of the grapes were added as whole bunches. Fermentation was conducted spontaneously by indigenous yeasts without temperature control. The fermenting must was plunged down, every second day, and pressed after 14 days. The new wine underwent malolactic fermentation and then remained on fine lees, in several large, used oak casks, before blending and bottling in May 2020. It was neither fined nor filtered.

Crimson red in colour, this wine has lifted aromas of red cherries, wild raspberries and delicate white flowers. The palate is juicy, medium bodied and flavoursome, with bright red fruit and underlying spice. The tannins are fine and austere. The finish is mineral and long, typical of wines from volcanic soils.
