Lids can be used in physician office settings in the event the original Thin Prep Vial lids are contaminated and/or compromised in any way which eliminates the need to open a new kit just for a replacement lid.

Additionally, these cytology lids are used to recap Thin Prep vials when using such systems as the Roche Cobas 4800 or Hologic Thin Prep 2000. This allows the lab to dispose of the initial patient cap when setting up the instrument and recap with a new one to eliminate the time-consuming tracking of each patient cap. Furthermore, using new caps eliminates the risk of cross contamination when testing for STIs, high-risk HPV (Human Papillomavirus), and/or individual HPV 16 & HPV 18 genotype testing for cervical cancer.
