Born from myth and carved in gold, the Rolex Queen Midas is a sculptural homage to power, rarity, and transformation.  Derived from the legendary Rolex King Midas, a design first presented in 1962 and conceptualized by Gérald Genta, the Queen Midas retains the grandeur of its forebear, distilled into a more delicate but no less potent form. Only a select number of these pieces were ever produced. 

Inspired by the columns and silhouette of the Parthenon, its asymmetrical case, angular profile, and integrated bracelet are Genta’s architectural signature. When viewed on its side, the timepiece mimics the ancient Greek temple’s pediment and fluted pillars, channeling divine symmetry into a form worn on the wrist.

But myth does more than inspire, it also defines function. In a poetic detail, the winding crown is placed on the left, a nod to the tale of King Midas, who was said to have turned all he touched with his left hand into gold. In keeping with this legend, the Queen Midas transforms the act of wearing into a gesture of golden metamorphosis.

The Queen Midas eschews embellishment for elemental elegance: a minimalist dial, two hands, and the Rolex crown at twelve.  With a case crafted in solid 18k yellow gold and a weight that asserts its presence, the Queen Midas was priced at a third more than a Day-Date upon release. Today, it is a rare, radiant, and glamorous collector’s prize.
