Igor Levitt
Description:
Always approaching album-making from a unique perspective and theme, Igor Levitt's latest release is (once again) a two-disc epic. Exploring the great questions of life and existence, and covering both well-known and very unusual repertoire, the theme of Igor's new album is "Tristan." The word "Tristan" first brings to mind Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde," and the exquisite chord progression heard at the beginning of the prelude to this piece, composed between 1857 and 1859, is said to have prepared the way for the music of the 20th century that followed. And inspired by this piece, the contemporary composer Henze created "Tristan" for piano, electronic music tape, and orchestra. Henze's work will be performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Welser-Möst, and will also attract attention here. (C)RS
