Gomata, also known as Kamadhenu, and Surabhi, is the mother of all cows in Hinduism. The Gomata is typically depicted as a cow nursing her calf.
Gomata (or Goumata, literally the mother of cows) originated from the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the oceans, and was commended by Lord Brahma to give milk and ghee to all people. Her body is believed to hold all the Gods.
Per Vastu Shastra, placing a Gomata cow and calf idol is considered auspicious in the home and is often gifted to homeowners when they buy or move into a new home at housewarming ceremonies.
Kamadhenu is typically depicted in two iconic symbols in Hinduism—one as a cow and a calf (this idol), and the other as a being with a cow's body, a woman's face, the wings of a bird, and the tail of a peafowl. The other Kamadhenu statue is here.
