Our 2nd generation IQ3 2.1 controller is designed to control up to 3 garage doors (depends on the opener model) or 1 gate. It works with all known garage door opener brands. Chamberlain, Liftmaster, MyQ, Genie, Overhead Door, Ryobi, and more. No adaptors or hacks required.

NOTE 1: It DOES NOT work with Chamberlain / Liftmaster openers with a WHITE learn button (aka Security+ 3.0).

NOTE 2: The IQ3 2.1 can be configured in only 1 mode (digital, dry contact, or 3 button dry contact). You cannot mix opener types and connect them to the same IQ3 2.1 controller.

If you want to control multiple doors you have 2 options.

Option #1
Install 1 controller per door.  This allows the use of digital communication if supported by your garage door opener.

Option #2
Connect up to 3 compatible dry contact garage door openers using additional door kits (sold separately). Digital communication is not supported for multiple openers. Use option #1 above if your openers are digital.

What's New in the IQ3 2.1?

Digital control - simplifies installation and enables direct communication with many modern openers with just 2 connections and no door sensor required (see SmartFit Guide for details). 1 digital opener can be connected to each controller.

Obstruction sensor input - read and report obstruction sensor data directly from the safety sensors

Pass-through wiring - makes connecting the wires easier for digital and 3 Button Dry Contact installations.

Optional PoE upgrade board available - hard-wired reliability

12V to 24V AC/DC Power input terminals - provides additional options to power the unit directly from a battery or low voltage AC power in solar gate applications

Commercial Grade Door Sensor - included if you select a kit with a door sensor

The #1 thing a smart garage door controller needs to get right is reporting the door position. You don't want false alerts or door automations accidentally triggering on windy days or when it's cold outside or when the sensor battery is dying, or when an insect crawls across a camera lens or laser beam. Tailwind uses commercial-grade, sealed, all aluminum door sensors to ensure rock-solid door position information.

Patented Auto-Open

Experience the luxury of patented technology that automatically and securely opens the door as you arrive home. Just drive. Even multiple vehicles, doors, drivers and locations are no problem. Tailwind handles it all with ease. Optional vehicle sensor is REQUIRED for iPhone users to have the auto open and close feature. Android users DO NOT require a vehicle sensor if their phone is paired with their vehicle.

Works With a Bunch of Stuff

Works with Apple HomeKit, Siri, CarPlay (via HomeKit), Android Auto, Google Home, The Google Assistant, Alexa, Smart Things, IFTTT, Home Assistant, Hubitat, Crestron, Control4, and a local control API allowing you to create your own integrations. Night Mode

Night Mode monitors your garage door all night, and will close your door if it opens. This makes your home safer. “One and done” solutions like “Close the door at 9 PM” do NOTHING if someone leaves the door open at 9:05. Night Mode automatically protects your home at night without affecting daytime operation. And of course you can configure what time "Night" begins, what time it ends, and the delay before closing.

Auto-Close

If you’re distracted when you leave home and you forget to close the garage door, auto-close will detect this and close the door for you.

Awesome Sharing Options

Tailwind gives you more ways to share access than any other solution. Share access with an unlimited number of people. Schedule, restrict or revoke access at any time. Control event history visibility and notifications. “Cross-share” with other Tailwind households.

Door Disable

Need to work around the yard or in the garage and you don't want any automations or shared access users opening / closing the door? No problem. Disable it until a certain time or until you decide you want control restored again.

Works when the internet is down

Unlike other solutions that rely on cloud connectivity, if your internet goes down Tailwind will still allow you to control the door as long as your phone is on your Home WiFi network.

Notifications that tell you more

A notification that says "Garage Door Opened" just isn't good enough. With Tailwind, activity notifications tell you who or what operated the door if it was done through our system. For example "Alexa opened garage door 3" or "Jerry closed West Garage". Notifications can be spoken / verbal "your garage door just opened" or the usual notification sound of your smartphone / smart device.

Auto-Close Timer

Want to make sure your door is closed any time of the day or night? Set a timer to notify you if the door is left open for a pre-determined period of time or optionally close it.

Expandable

We've tested Tailwind with 300 doors on a single account, so it can handle whatever you throw at it.

What’s the Difference between the 2.0 and 2.1 models?

The 2.1 has everything the 2.0 has, and adds the following:

Connect up to 3 dry contact type openers (additional door kits required). 
Support for openers with separate open / close / stop buttons or terminals
12V to 24V AC/DC power input - perfect for many gate installations.

NOTES:

Both the IQ3 2.0 and 2.1 support 1 digital opener per controller.

You cannot use the IQ3 2.1 to control both digital AND dry contact openers at the same time.
