Strauss, Richard (1864-1949)
Description:
The fifth collection of Richard Strauss's orchestral works by Weigle and the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra features two symphonic poems by the young Strauss in his twenties. Death and Transfiguration" was written first, then he asked his friend Alexander Ritter to write a suitable poem for the piece, which he put at the beginning of the score. It is a masterpiece that condenses his own view of life and death at the time. The other piece, "From Italy," is a bright and cheerful song. The scenic beauty of Italy that he saw on his travels is reflected in this piece, and it is said to be the beginning of Strauss's motto music. Weigle, who specializes in Richard Strauss's works, gives a nuanced performance that conveys the exquisite orchestration in full. Naxos Japan
