The aura of Asahina's conducting, which radiated from the rehearsals, and the earnest performance by Yabe and the other Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra members in response, led to the success of the concert, which could be described as miraculous. After the performance, Asahina nominated Yabe as the soloist for the following year's Brahms Cycle, and they performed together a total of four times. The memorable 1996 performance of the Brahms Cycle - the symphonic resonance of Asahina and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and the romantic virtuosity of Yabe's superbly beautiful sound - will be a landmark in the performance of this work.
