Description:
This is a live recording of the Vienna State Opera moving to London in 1954. The program is Böhm's specialty, "The Marriage of Figaro," and it is a wonderful performance at the Royal Festival Hall with all the singers who were at their best in Vienna at the time. The performance, praised by Harold Rosenthal in "Opera" magazine at the time, was a true recreation of the Viennese stage, not only for the beautiful and refined music spun by the orchestra, but also for the "Mozart Ensemble" established by Böhm and Cripps, which was particularly brilliant. The "Mozart Ensemble" established by Böhm and Cripps was especially outstanding, and the singing by Kunz, Schaeffler, Della Casa and Jurinacci was mesmerizing. This is the first time the recording has been made available. Naxos Japan
