The Fabulous Flamingo Hotel became a symbol of Las Vegas glamour when it opened on December 26, 1946. Built with mob money and Hollywood dreams, it was designed to be the most extravagant resort on the Strip, offering guests fine dining, lush tropical landscaping, and a casino dripping in neon. After Bugsy Siegel’s infamous murder in 1947, the Flamingo thrived under new management, bringing in legendary performers like Jimmy Durante and Lena Horne. By the 1960s, its star power only grew, with the resort hosting lavish showgirl revues and high-stakes gambling. The original buildings stood for decades before being demolished in 1993, marking the end of an era for one of Vegas’ most iconic names.
